Box Score REGINA, Sask. – The #3 University of Regina's women's basketball team rolled to a big 93-44 win over Manitoba on Friday, January 13 night in a Canada West game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Katie Polischuk led all scorers with 19 points for the Cougars, who improve their conference record to 9-2 with the victory. Kyanna Giles added 16 points for the U of R, while Caitlin Zacharias scored 14 in the win.
The Cougars took control of this one early, going on a massive 24-0 run which turned a three-point Manitoba advantage into a 21-point Regina lead in the early going of the second quarter. The Bisons never threatened after that as the Cougars enjoyed a 42-23 advantage at the half, pushed the lead to 66-37 after three, and outscored Manitoba by a 27-7 margin in the fourth.
Giles also had nine rebounds to finish just short of a double-double for the Cougars, who outrebounded Manitoba by a 66-38 margin. Ainsley MacIntyre added nine points, while Sara Hubenig and Michaela Kleisinger both scored six and four other Cougars – Britton Belyk, Angela Bongomin, Avery Pearce, and Alexi Rowden – all finished with five points.
Taylor Randall led Manitoba (1-10) with 15 points.
The two teams will finish off the weekend set on Saturday, Jan. 14 night. Game time is again set for 6 p.m. CT at the CKHS.
