The Bison volleyball teams host the Calgary Dinos on January 20-21 weekend at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus) in second consecutive weekend at home with the men's game at 6 p.m. CT and the women's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday and 3 p.m. start for men and 4:30 p.m. CT start for women on Saturday. The #3 Bison men's volleyball team (13-1) is on a 12 game conference win streak and in a tie for first spot in the Canada West conference standings. The Dinos (7-7) are in eighth place and won last five matches. The two teams met in conference play last season when Manitoba won 3-1 (Feb. 19/16) and lost 3-0 (Feb. 20/16) at Calgary.
In conference 2016-17 stats, the Bison men's team is second in hitting percentage at .305, second in blocks at 2.59 per set, sixth in assists at 11.46 per set, sixth in conference kills at 12.21, seventh in service aces at 1.33 and tenth in conference digs at 8.88.
Individually, Devren Dear is fourth in Canada West with 3.81 kills per set while Adam DeJonckheere is eighth at 3.29. DeJonckheere is third in hitting percentage at .327 and Dear is sixth at .314. Luke Herr is fourth with 9.54 assists per set and sixth with 0.40 service aces per set. Ken Rooney is T-8th with 1.00 blocks/set while Dear (4.5) and DeJonckheere (3.7) are third and 11th in points per set.
The Bison women's volleyball team (6-8) and has won four of last six conference matches and face #6 and T-3rd Calgary (11-3). Manitoba is tied for sixth place in the Canada West conference standings. In Canada West stats, the Bisons are eighth in hitting percentage at .165, eighth in conference kills at 11.18 per set, eighth in assists at 10.40 per set, eighth in blocks at 1.98 per set, 12th in service aces at 1.47 per set and second in conference digs/set at 14.33.
Individually, Kearley Abbott is tenth with 3.02 kills per set, fifth with .276 hitting percentage and seventh in points at 200.5. Sydney Booker is fourth at 9.10 assists per set and 11th with 0.47 service aces/set. In digs per set, Cassie Bujan is 11th at 2.92 while Caleigh Dobie at 14th with 2.59. Sarah Klassen is 17th in hitting percentage at .235, 14th place in blocks per set with 0.87. Tori Studler is 18th with 144.5 points.
