Men's Basketball

Bison basketball teams host UNBC Timberwolves on January 27-28 weekend at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus)

Women will start at 6 p.m. CT; men at 8 p.m. CT on Friday and on Saturday, women at 4 p.m. and men at 6 p.m.

The Bison basketball teams play their first games at home of the second half of the 2016-17 Canada West conference regular season with a weekend series against the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves on January 27-28 weekend at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus). On Friday, the women's game will be at 6 p.m. CT and the men's game is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT while on Saturday, women's start at 4 p.m. CT and men's at 6 p.m. CT. Tickets available at the door of IGAC.

The Bison men's basketball team (8-6) is on a six game conference win streak (nine games including non-conference contests). Manitoba is now in seventh place in the Canada West conference standing as the play T-14th spot UNBC (4-10). Manitoba did not play the Timberwolves last season and the only time they have meet in conference action was in their first season in 2012-13 and the Herd won 90-79 at UNBC (Jan. 19/13).

In this conference men's basketball season, the Bisons are third in scoring offence at 86.0 points per game and tenth in scoring defence at 80.0 points per game. In 3-point percentage, Manitoba is fourth at 37.2% and second in field goal percentage at 46.6%. In Canada West steals per game, Manitoba is sixth at 8.1; in assists per game, Manitoba is fourth with 15.0 per game and in rebounds per game; Manitoba is ninth in conference at 39.2; blocks per game, the Bisons 14th at 1.9.

Individually, co-captain Justus Alleyn is 13th in conference scoring at 16.7 points per game while Keith Omoerah is 21st at 14.8 point per game and co-captain AJ Basi is T-30th at 13.6 pts./game. Omoerah is tied for tenth with 30.4 minutes played per game while Basi (30.4) is T-14th and Alleyn (29.7) is T-20th. Omoerah is sixth with 8.3 rebounds per game while Basi is third with 2.3 steals per game. Ilarion Bonhomme is fourth with 4.4 assists per game. Omoerah in ninth spot in 3-point percentage at 43.9% and James Wagner first at 61.0% field goal percentage and Joey Nitychoruk sixth at 56.3%.

The Bison women's basketball team (1-13) seeks their second win of the conference season and first weekend sweep as they host against 11th place UNBC (5-9). Manitoba did not play the Timberwolves last season and the only time they have meet in conference action was in their first season in 2012-13 and the Herd lost 83-72 at UNBC (Jan. 19/13).

In this conference women's basketball season, the Bisons are 15th in scoring offence at 59.1 points per game and 17th in scoring defence at 76.2 points per game. In 3-point percentage, Manitoba is seventh at 29.9% and 17th in field goal percentage at 33.0%.In free throw percentage, the Herd is 12th at 68.6. In Canada West rebounds, the Bisons are 14h at 37.6 per game, 14th in steals per game 7.9, 17th in assists per game at 8.8 and T-12th with 1.9 blocks per game.

Individually, assistant captain Nicole Konieczny is 19th in conference scoring with 12.8 points per game, tied for third with 33.1 minutes per game, 13th with 7.4 rebounds per game and tied for tenth with 2.2 steals per game. Rookie Taylor Randall is second in team scoring and tied for 25th in conference scoring with 11.6 points per game plus tied for tenth in conference free throw shooting at 83.3%. Konieczny and Emma Thompson (34.3%) are T-13th in 3-point Canada West shooting percentage. Thompson is also tied for tenth with 0.9 blocks per game.
