Bison Football host UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday, October 21 at 2 p.m. CT kickoff at Investors Group Field

Manitoba is 1-5 while UBC has 4-2 record after six weeks of conference action

The Manitoba Bisons (1-5) continues their 2017 Canada West football regular season with the fourth and final home game of the season against the UBC Thunderbirds (4-2) at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, October 21 at Investors Group Field. The game will also be on live webcast (canadawest.tv – fee required) along with radio broadcast can be heard live on 101.5 UMFM (online at: umfm.com).

The Bisons started the season ranked number ten in the country in the first U SPORTS Top 10 poll of the season while UBC is now ranked sixth this week.

Earlier in 2017 season, Manitoba played UBC on the road and lost 32-18 in week two on Sept. 9.
Over Brian Dobie's tenure with Manitoba (22 years), the Bisons have a 17-16 overall record against the Thunderbirds and 7-8 at home during the conference regular season. The last time the Herd beat UBC was in 2014 at home by 20-10 (Sept. 20).

Despite the record, Manitoba is still in position to make a push for a playoff spot. The Bisons are only one game back of fourth place Saskatchewan for the fourth and final playoff position to qualify for the post-season with only two games remaining.

Earlier this 2017 regular season, Manitoba lost 44-23 over the Saskatchewan Huskies at home (Sept. 1), were defeated 32-18 at #10 UBC (Sept. 9), 76-17 loss to #3 Calgary at home (Sept. 16), won 18-16 at #6 Regina in week four (Sept. 23) lost 36-25 vs. Alberta at home (Sept. 29) and lost 36-27 at #2 Calgary (Oct. 14)..

In 2017 conference regular season team stats after week six, Manitoba is sixth in offence with 21.3 points per game average while UBC is tied for fourth at 28.3. In offence yards per game, the Bisons are sixth with 341.8 while the T-Birds are fourth at 458.7. On defence, Manitoba is fifth with 40.0 points allowed per game while UBC is T-1st with 23.5 pts./game. In yards allowed, Manitoba is fifth place (494.0) and the Thunderbirds are second (381.8).

This is the second of two meetings between the two teams in 2017 football regular season.


Bison Notes: There will be ten graduating fifth year players to be honour prior to the start of the game on Saturday.
