WINNIPEG – Adam DeJonckheere was a driving force in the University of Manitoba Bisons' 3-0 win (25-21, 25-23, 25-17) over the MacEwan University Griffins in men's volleyball at Investors Group Athletic Centre on Friday, Nov.17. 

Fifth-year left-side DeJonckheere led the charge for the Herd and energized the home crowd. The captain posted an impressive 21 kills and only five errors on 29 attempts to give himself a hitting efficiency of 0.552.

"He (DeJonckheere) feels the weight on his shoulders to carry this team," said Bisons head coach Garth Pischke. "He really did a professional job of it tonight." 

For the visitors, fifth-year outside-hitter Shane Kerrison racked up 18 kills (his personal best so-far this season).

Overall, the Griffins did not generate a consistent offense. They had a team total of 20 errors, and a collective hitting efficiency of 0.163. 

The Bisons electrified offense and steady backrow allowed the home team to coast to a comfortable win, despite a push from the Griffins in the second set. In that set, the Griffins matched the Bisons' kill-count with 15, but a crosscourt kill from DeJonckheere earned the Bisons the 2-0 lead. 

The Griffins couldn't break they momentum in the third as the Bisons took it 25-17 with DeJonckheere posting the final kill of the match.   

The Griffins sit at 0-7 after Friday's game. They also picked up back-to-back losses last weekend (Nov. 10-11), playing at home against the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat. 

On the road in Edmonton last weekend, the Bisons lost 3-0 in both games against the undefeated University of Alberta Golden Bears. 

"It was good to get home and play in front of our home crowd," said Pischke. "Adam took those loses harder than anyone, but that wasn't going to stop him. 

The Herd hadn't won a game since their home opener on Oct. 20 when they beat the Brandon University Bobcats in three sets. They now improve their record to 2-5. 

Both teams play again on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT.
