The Bison volleyball teams travel to play at Trinity Western Spartans on February 24-25 weekend in Langley, B.C. in final conference regular season matches of 2016-17. On Friday, the women's team plays at 7 p.m. CT while the men play at 9 p.m. CT and on Saturday, the women's match starts at 7 p.m. CT and men's at 9 p.m. CT.
The #1 Bison men's volleyball team (21-1) is on a 20 match conference win streak and in first spot in the Canada West conference standings. The Spartans (19-3) are in second place. Both teams have a chance to finish the season first. The Bisons clinch first with a match win while if the Spartans, win both matches, the first tie-breaker is conference sets won overall/sets lost overall (Manitoba is at 4.5 while TWU is at 2.95 in sets heading into weekend). The two teams met in conference play last season when the Bisons lost 3-1 (Jan. 22/16) and won 3-0 (Jan. 23/16) at Manitoba.
In conference 2016-17 stats, the Bison men's team is first in hitting percentage at .315, second in blocks at 2.53 per set, third in assists at 11.91 per set, second in conference kills at 12.65, second in service aces at 1.44 and eighth in conference digs at 9.27.
Individually, Devren Dear is third in Canada West with 4.00 kills per set while Adam DeJonckheere is ninth at 3.31. Dear is third and DeJonckheere is fourth in hitting percentage at .314 and .310. Luke Herr is fourth with 10.05 assists per set and fourth with 0.44 service aces per set. Ken Rooney is fifth with 1.03 blocks/set while Dear (331.0) and DeJonckheere (253.0) are seventh and 17th in conference points.
The Bison women's volleyball team (6-16) finishes their conference season against #3 and second place Spartans (19-3). Manitoba is tied for tenth place and will not qualify for post-season this year. The two teams met in conference play last season when the Bisons lost 3-0 (Jan. 22/16) and lost 3-1 (Jan. 23/16) at Manitoba.
In Canada West stats, the Bisons are ninth in hitting percentage at .158, eighth in conference kills at 11.06 per set, eighth in assists at 10.41 per set, 11th in blocks at 1.83 per set, 12th in service aces at 1.49 per set and first in conference digs/set at 14.73.
Individually, Sarah Klassen is eighth in hitting percentage at .249 and tied for seventh in blocks per set with 0.96. Kearley Abbott is 11th with 2.75 kills per set, 18th with .215 hitting percentage and eighth in points at 294.0. Sydney Booker is fourth at 8.92 assists per set and T-9th with 0.44 service aces/set. In digs per set, Cassie Bujan is 12th at 2.86 while Caleigh Dobie at T-18th with 2.35. Tori Studler is 18th with 220.0 points and 18th with 2.27 kills/set.
