Box Score LANGLEY, British Columbia – Led by fifth year graduating women's volleyball seniors outside hitters Sophie Carpentier, Elly Wendel, and Chelsea Tancon, the Trinity Western Spartans defeated the Manitoba Bisons in straight sets to secure a record setting 21st conference win of the season. The 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 win on Sat., Feb. 25 improves the No. 3 Spartans to 21-3, while the loss ends the Bisons season at 6-18.
The Spartans finish conference play in second place in Canada West, behind the Alberta Pandas (22-2), and will host the seventh place Mount Royal Cougars next week in the Canada West Quarter-finals.
Carpentier with 15 kills, eight digs, and two aces, Wendel with eight kills, four digs, and two blocks and Tancon with six kills, seven digs, and two aces led the TWU attack.
The Bisons were led by fifth year Sarah Klassen with eight kills, and Kearley Abbott with seven kills, seven digs, and two blocks led the Manitoba attack.
Tonight's match was also the final match for Manitoba's Caleigh Dobie and Klassen.
The Spartans had the edge on the Bisons in nearly all the statistical categories. TWU led 41-31 in kills, 10-5 in aces, 6-2 in team blocks, and hitting percentage at .283 (41-13-99) to .134 (31-18-97).
TWU setter Nikki Cornwall finished with 34 set assists, while Manitoba's Sydney Booker led the Bisons with 19 set assists.
This match wraps up the 2016-17 season for the Bisons.
