Bison volleyball teams travel to play at MacEwan Griffins on February 10-11 with four matches left in conference regular season

Women’s team still chance for playoff spot while men’s squad #1 ranked in U SPORTS

The Bison volleyball teams travel to play at MacEwan Griffins on February 10-11 weekend in Edmonton with four matches left in the conference regular season. On Friday, the women's team plays at 7 p.m. CT while the men play at 8:30 p.m. CT and on Saturday, the women's match starts at 6 p.m. CT and the men's at 7:30 p.m. CT.

The #1 Bison men's volleyball team (19-1) is on an 18 match conference win streak and in first spot in the Canada West conference standings. The Griffins (4-16) are in 11th place and won their two matches. The two teams met in conference play last season when the Bisons won 3-0 (Oct. 30/16) and won 3-0 (Oct. 31/16) at Manitoba.

In conference 2016-17 stats, the Bison men's team is second in hitting percentage at .308, second in blocks at 2.56 per set, fourth in assists at 11.72 per set, fourth in conference kills at 12.45, second in service aces at 1.51 and eighth in conference digs at 9.11.

Individually, Devren Dear is third in Canada West with 4.05 kills per set while Adam DeJonckheere is tied for eighth at 3.31. Dear is third and DeJonckheere is seventh in hitting percentage at .318 and .302. Luke Herr is fourth with 9.86 assists per set and third with 0.46 service aces per set. Ken Rooney is fifth with 1.01 blocks/set while Dear (307.5) and DeJonckheere (231.0) are third and 13th in conference points.

The Bison women's volleyball team (6-14) has lost last eight conference matches and plays the Griffins (6-14). Manitoba and MacEwan are tied for ninth place in the Canada West conference standings with Top 7 making playoffs. This is a crucial weekend as Manitoba is only one match win back of seventh. The two teams met last season in conference play when Manitoba lost 3-2 (Oct. 30/16) and won 3-0 (Oct. 31/16) at home.

In Canada West stats, the Bisons are ninth in hitting percentage at .156, seventh in conference kills at 11.10 per set, seventh in assists at 10.40 per set, tenth in blocks at 1.90 per set, 12th in service aces at 1.45 per set and first in conference digs/set at 14.65.

Individually, Sarah Klassen is seventh in hitting percentage at .557 and sixth place in blocks per set with 0.96. Kearley Abbott is 12th with 2.81 kills per set, 17th with .221 hitting percentage and eighth in points at 266.0. Sydney Booker is fourth at 8.92 assists per set and T-12th with 0.43 service aces/set. In digs per set, Cassie Bujan is 13th at 2.73 while Caleigh Dobie at T-17th with 2.46. Tori Studler is 19th with 187.0 points and 21st with 2.20 kills/set.
