Bison men’s basketball team is 6th seed for 2017 U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Championship in Halifax

Manitoba will play first game against #3 seed McGill on Thursday, March 9 at 12 p.m. CT

The Manitoba Bisons men's basketball team are the Canada West silver medallist after the 2017 Canada West Final Four on March 3-4 weekend. The squad is the sixth seed for the 2017 U SPORTS Men's Basketball Championship being held from March 9-12 in Halifax.

The Bisons (regular season: 12-8 record; playoffs: 5-1) will play against the #3 seed McGill Redmen (13-3 regular season; 2-0 playoffs) in their first match on Thursday, March 9 at 12 p.m. CT. Manitoba has not played the 2017 RSEQ (Quebec Student Sport Federation - Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) champion this season and have not met them during the national championship.

This is the first time the Bisons has qualified for the U SPORTS championships since the 1985-86 season (counting regional championship) and eighth appearance. In 1986, the Bisons lost in a regional championship to Saskatchewan and overall in program's history have won one championship (1975-76), two silver medals (1970-71, 1974-75), two bronze medals (1973-74, 1984-85) and a sixth place finish (1977-78).
