The Manitoba Bisons (0-2) looks for their first win of the conference season when they host the annual Homecoming Game presented by Barley Brothers against the #3 Calgary Dinos (2-0) on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m. CT held at Investors Group Field. The game will also be on live webcast (canadawest.org – fee required) along with radio broadcast can be heard live on 101.5 UMFM (online at: umfm.com).
This is the first of two meetings between the two teams (second time played at Calgary on Oct. 14/17) in the conference regular season in 2017.
This will be the second U SPORTS Top 10 ranked team that the Bisons will play in the first three weeks of the year. To start the 2017 season, the Bisons were ranked tenth in the first U SPORTS poll and hosted unranked Saskatchewan in week one and lost 44-23 on Fri., Sept. 1. Then Manitoba, unranked, went on the road for the first time this season and lost 32-18 road loss to #10 UBC on Sat., Sept. 9.
Last season, Manitoba played the Dinos twice and lost 23-14 (Sept. 1/16) in game one at home and then lost 63-6 at Calgary (Oct. 14/16) in week five. Over
Brian Dobie's tenure with Manitoba (21 years), the Bisons have an 11-21 overall record against the Dinos and 7-9 at home during the conference regular season.
In 2017, Calgary won 55-26 at Alberta in week one and then won 46-26 over #5 Regina at home in week two.
In 2017 conference regular season team stats after week two, Manitoba is sixth in offence with 20.5 points average per game while Calgary is first at 50.5 points per game. In offence yards per game, the Bisons are sixth with 345.0 while the Dinos are first at 603.5. On defence, Manitoba is fifth with 38.0 points allowed per game while Calgary is second with 26.0 pts./game. In yards allowed, Manitoba is fifth place (495.5) and the Dinos are second spot (413.5).
Bison Notes: In Homecoming Game since it started back up in 1999, Bison Football are 10--5 and have won all four played so far at Investors Group Field (Oct. 2/15: W 34-19 over Regina; Sept. 20/14: W 20-10 over UBC; Sept. 28/13: W 34-15 over Regina; Sept. 24/16: W 38-17 over Saskatchewan).
