The Manitoba Bisons (0-3) continues their 2017 Canada West football regular season with the second road game of the season against the #6 Regina Rams (2-1) with kickoff on Saturday, September 23 at 3 p.m. CT at Mosaic Stadium in Regina. The game will be available on live webcast on canadawest.tv (fee required) and Bell MTS Channel 1802 HD.
The Bisons started the season ranked number ten in the country in the first U SPORTS Top 10 poll of the season while Regina is now ranked number six heading into this week's battle and has been ranked in all four polls so far this season.
Last season, Manitoba played the Rams twice and was defeated 55-21 at Manitoba (Oct. 29/16) and then 41-38 at Regina in week two (Sept. 8/16). Over the last 19 seasons since Regina joined Canada West Football in 1999, the Bisons have a 17-13 overall record against the Rams and 6-9 on the road during the conference regular season. The last win at Regina for Manitoba occurred in 2015 (W 49-46 on Oct. 17).
In the 2016 season, Manitoba went 3-5 in the regular season (fifth in Canada West) and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Regina was 6-2 for first place and went to the playoffs where they lost to UBC by 40-34 score at home in conference semi-final.
Earlier this 2017 regular season, Manitoba lost 44-23 over the Saskatchewan Huskies at home (Sept. 1), defeated 32-18 at #10 UBC (Sept. 9) and 76-17 loss to #3 Calgary at home (Sept. 16).
Manitoba enters the game looking to avoid the program's first 0-4 start to a season in two decades (1998) and their first since the conference expanded in 1999. The Herd went 0-8 in 1998 and has not opened a season 0-4 since then.
This is the only meeting between the two teams in the 2017 football season.
Bison Notes: Bison second year running back/kick returner Jamel Lyles leads the conference and third in U SPORTS with 628 all-purpose yards (kick return: 279; rush: 271; receiving: 68; punt return: 10) and third in conference rush yards at 271 through three weeks. Theo Deezar is fifth in CW passing yards at 682 while Riley Harrison is 11th in receiving yards at 159.
