Bison Football first road game of the 2017 Canada West regular season against UBC on Saturday, September 9 with 3 p.m. CT kickoff

Manitoba is 0-1 while UBC is also 0-1 after week one action

The Manitoba Bisons (0-1) continues their 2017 Canada West football regular season with the first road game of the season against the UBC Thunderbirds (0-1) with kickoff on Saturday, September 9 at 3 p.m. CT at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. The game will be available on live webcast on canadawest.tv (fee required).

The Bisons started the season ranked number ten in the country in the first U SPORTS Top 10 poll of the season while UBC was ranked number seven before both teams lost in the first week of action.

Last season, Manitoba played the Thunderbirds once and was defeated in an epic 53-50 (4 OT) contest at UBC (Sept. 30/16).
Over Brian Dobie's 21 year tenure at Manitoba, the Bisons have a 17-15 overall record against the T-Birds and 10-7 on the road during the conference regular season. The last win at UBC for Manitoba occurred in 2013 (W 36-32).

In the 2016 season, Manitoba went 3-5 in the regular season (fifth in Canada West) and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011. UBC also went 3-5 for fourth and went to the playoffs where they beat Regina 40-34 on the road in conference semi-final and lost to Calgary on the road by 46-43 in Canada West Final.

Earlier this 2017 regular season, both teams played in week one with the Bisons losing 44-23 over the Saskatchewan Huskies at home (Sept. 1/17) while UBC lost on the road to #5 Regina by a 36-20 score on Sept. 1/17.

The Herd is looking to avoid back-to-back 0-2 start to a season as they began 2016 campaign with the same record.

Manitoba and UBC will play once again during the conference regular season in 2017 when the Bisons host the Thunderbirds on Saturday, October 21 at 2 p.m. CT at Investors Group Field.

Bison Notes: Bison second year running back/kick returner Jamel Lyles already has made an imprint for 2017 during game one despite the loss as he racked up an impressive 218 all-purpose yards (kick return: 121; rush: 81; receiving: 21; punt return: -7). He sits second in U SPORTS with a 218 yards per game average in all-purpose yards. Lyles is also sixth in U SPORTS with 121 kickoff return yards.
