After day one of the 2018 Canada West Swimming Championships in Calgary, the Manitoba Bison swim teams got off to a solid start — winning three medals and earning six top eight finishes.

Bison third-year swimmer
Kelsey Wog won gold in the 50m breaststroke for the third straight year, beating last year's time (31.01) with a 30.56 in the event. The win also secures 2018-19 Canada West First Team All-Star honours for Wog.
Second-year swimmer
Dora Modrcin was a two-time medalist on Friday, finishing second in the women's 50m backstroke (28.21) and third in the 50m butterfly (27.37). The backstroke time breaks her own school record, set last year at the 2018 U SPORTS Swimming Championship (28.32).
In other Bison highlights, fourth-year men's swimmer
Anthony Iliouchetchev finished just off the podium in the men's 50m backstroke. He placed fourth in a time of 25.78. The men's 800m free relay finished seventh (8:02.69), with
Michael Lajoie,
Reid Glatz,
Alex Shogolev, and
Andreas Cappelletto racing the legs for Manitoba.
Finally, fifth-year
Gio Wickett finished eighth in the women's 50m backstroke in a time of 30.41.
There are eight Bison women's swimmers at the conference championship, plus six men's swimmers. The three-day event continues tomorrow, November 24.
