Men's Volleyball

Bison volleyball teams host weekend series against UBC Okanagan on February 16-17 weekend at IGAC

On Friday, women start at 6 p.m. CT; men at 7:45 p.m. CT plus on Saturday, men start at 5 p.m. and women at 6:45 p.m. with both Bison teams looking to qualify for playoffs

The Bison volleyball teams host a weekend series against UBC Okanagan, with only one week left in 2017-18 Canada West regular season, on Friday, February 16 and then Saturday, February 17 at Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus). On Friday, the women's game will be at 6 p.m. CT and the men's game is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. CT while on Saturday, men's match starts at 5 p.m. CT and women's begin at 6:45 p.m. CT. The Bison women's volleyball team (11-11) seeks to make playoffs after a year absence last season and tied for seventh place in the Canada West conference standings with Top 8 teams qualify for the playoffs. UBC Okanagan is No. 1 in U SPORTS with 18-4 record and second in CW. The two teams met in conference play last season when Manitoba lost 3-1 (Nov. 11/16) and lost 3-0 (Nov. 12/16) on the road.

In Canada West 2017-18 stats, the Bisons are ninth in hitting percentage at .162, sixth in conference kills per set at 11.47, sixth in assists at 10.74 per set, fifth in blocks at 2.29 per set, 12th in service aces at 1.40 and first in conference digs at 17.09.

Individually in CW, in kills, Kearley Abbott is T-6th at 290. Brittany Habing is seventh in assists with 721. Cassie Bujan is second in digs at 369 and Habing is 11th at 246. Emily Erickson is ninth in total blocks with 85 while Kearley Abbott is ninth in points at 338.0.

The Bison men's volleyball team (9-13) seeks to make playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. Manitoba is tied for eighth in CW standings and Top 8 teams qualify for the playoffs. UBC Okanagan has a 5-17 record and 11th heading into weekend. The two teams met in conference play last season when Manitoba won 3-0 (Nov. 11/16) and won 3-1 (Nov. 12/16) on the road.

In conference 2017-18 stats, the Bison men's team is seventh in hitting percentage at .221, tenth in assists at 10.10 per set, ninth in conference kills at 10.88, first in blocks at 2.67 per set, 12th in service aces at 0.93 and 12th in conference digs at 8.23.

Individually in CW, in kills, co-captain Adam DeJonckheere is fifth and Scott Vercaigne is tenth with 281 and 258 respectfully. Jack Mandryk is 12th in assists with 366 while Brendan Warren is first with 101 total blocks plus co-captain Dustin Spiring is fifth at 86 blocks. DeJonckheere is 17th in hitting percentage at .231 and fifth in points (334.5) while Vercaigne sits tenth in points (304.5).
