It's an exciting season to be a fan of University of Manitoba Bisons volleyball and it starts this week.
Both men's and women's teams will face the Mount Royal Cougars at Investors Group Athletic Centre this weekend, with the home openers set for Saturday, October 26 at 4pm (women) and 5:45pm (men).
This year, Manitoba hosts the U SPORTS Men's Volleyball Championship from March 13-15, 2020, which invites the top teams in university volleyball to Winnipeg where they'll compete for the nation's top prize. The Bisons will compete as hosts and expect big things from players like outside hitter
Kevin Negus — one of the conference's kill leaders in 2018-19 — and
Brendan Warren, who has been one of the best middle blockers in Canada.
For the women, a veteran squad will lead a talented group of new players, who bring talent from the Manitoba volleyball scene and beyond. Key returning players include fourth-year
Kearley Abbott, who returned from an injury last season to lead the Bisons in kills per set.
Saturday's match will also feature the Spirit Cup, with residencies showing up loud and proud to cheer on the Bisons and compete in games on the court.
