MVB: Bisons win third straight match in straight sets over Heat

Owen Schwartz and Kevin Negus combined for 15 kills in the win.

KELOWNA, B.C. - On the UBC Okanagan Gym, the Manitoba Bisons came out with a balanced attack against the UBCO Heat, as the home team faltered.

The Bisons had five players with five or more kills. While untimely errors proved costly for the Heat, as they totaled 40 errors compared to Manitoba's 22.

Max Heppell's game-high 13 kills weren't enough to carry the Heat (0-4) to victory as they drop their fourth game in a row to open the season. The weekend sweep of the Heat brings Manitoba to (3-1) for their campaign.

Heppell recorded six kills in the first stanza but was outmatched by Manitoba's stable offense as the Bison took the frame (25-21).

The second set was handled by the Bisons who went on a (6-1) run to close it out. UBCO committed 13 errors in the set.

However the Heat would bounce back, grabbing the lead in the third set (13-12), the first time they held the lead since they won the opening point of the match. However a pair of attack errors from the Heat would give the lead back to the Bisons.

The Heat would battle to recapture the lead at (23-22) but with the game all squared at 24, Kevin Negus would record his eighth kill of the match and Owen Schwatrz his seventh to close out the match in the Bisons' favour.

The Heat will now head out on the road as the take on Mount Royal (2-3) in Calgary next weekend. Their first game starts at 5 pm PST on Friday.

Manitoba heads back home as their get a bye week, and will be taking on Trinity Western (4-1) at home in two-weeks time.
