WINNIPEG — The Bisons women's basketball team suffered a tough loss against the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday at Investors Group Athletic Centre, 91-62. It was the team's first regular season game in 22 months.
Entering halftime, the Bisons were still holding on with 38 points to the Wesmen's 48. The Bisons were shooting at 43% to the Wesmen's 45%. The difference came in rebounds and turnovers, where the Bisons put up 15 to the Wesmen's 26.
Emerson Martin led the Bisons, going into halftime with five field goals, shooting 100% from the three-point line.
The Bisons came back to the third quarter with more energy on the floor. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to match the Wesmen's scoring output. The Wesmen were able to find cracks in defence more often and began to increase their lead.
The Wesmen entered the final quarter up by 25 points, sitting comfortably above the Bisons' 48. However, they didn't let off on the pressure, only improving their defence and becoming more aggressive in the paint.
The lead continued to grow for the Wesmen until the game ended 91 to 62 for the Winnipeg Wesmen.
The two teams meet again tomorrow.
