WINNIPEG — The Bisons men's basketball team were in the game late, but Saskatchewan closed the door, as the Huskies finished a sweep in Saskatoon with a 78-66 victory on Saturday.
A layup from
James Wagner with 5:42 left cut the Huskies lead to one, but Saskatchewan answered with a 13-2 burst to close out the game.
Wagner's 17 points matched
Mason Kraus for the most among Bisons starters, but it was guard
Elijah Lostracco off the bench who was the high point man — scoring 20 on 7-for-12 shooting (2-for-6 from three).
Marquavian Stephens led the Huskies with 19 points. With the win, U of S matches the Bisons' record of 5-3 as three teams — along with Regina — now share the lead in Canada West's East division. Winnipeg is one game back at 4-4, setting up what should be a furious finish for the top spot and an automatic playoff berth.
The Bisons resume their season after the holiday break as they take on the Wesmen on January 15 at IGAC.
