WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Bisons played their opponent tighter on Saturday, but a third quarter run by the Regina Cougars put the game away.
The Cougars (6-6) outscored Manitoba (2-10) 29-14 in the third frame to extend their lead, eventually winning 79-52 to complete a weekend sweep.
A night after hitting seven triples, Regina's Faith Reid added five more on Saturday — leading all scorers with 22 points. Jade Belmore had 21 points and nine rebounds.
The Bisons were led by 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals from fifth-year
Taylor Randall — who was hyper-efficient, shooting 6-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-4 from deep.
Emerson Martin chipped in ten points and five boards in the frontcourt.
Overall team shooting hurt Manitoba again, though, against a tough Regina defence. The Bisons shot 30.2% to the Cougars' 43.5%, while also giving up 52 boards to the home team.
Bench play continues to be a strong point for the Herd, though. Led by seven points from
Emily Johnson, the substitutes scored 14 as a unit.
Next up, Bisons women's basketball return home to play the Saskatchewan Huskies — Feb. 4-5 at IGAC.
