FTB: Bisons knock off Regina 44-30, claim final playoff spot in the conference

With 318 passing yards, Catellier set a new program record, with 7,616 in his career.

Box Score REGINA -- Needing a win to advance to the post-season the Manitoba Bisons got the job done, defeating the number-two ranked team in the conference, Regina 44-30 at Mosaic Stadium.

It was a memorable day of quarterback Des Catellier and receiver AK Gassama, who connected five times for 210 yards, including a 75-yard major where Gassama used his speed to break away on a deep ball down the left sideline in single coverage. The long bomb was the team's second major of the first quarter, after a Breydon Stubbs touchdown run. The Manitoba back had 132 yards on just ten carries and two majors, with his yardage total being the second most in his career, and the second time he's gone over 100 yards in his career.

After trailing by 17, Regina battled back to take a 26-20 lead into the break. The two teams went back and forth afterwards, with Gassama scoring the game-winner on a 42-yard toss from Catellier to take a 37-30 lead. Running back Vaughan Lloyd added an insurance marker later on.

With 318 passing yards, Catellier set a new program record, with 7,616 in his career. Gassama's 210 yards was also the fourth most in a game, and his 746 yards on the year are the fifth most in program history. It's also the third game in a row that Gassama, the conference leader in receiving yards, went over 100.

Stephen Adamopoulos and Sebastien Reid also added interceptions, with Reid's third being the most of anyone on the Bisons. Manitoba will now travel to Saskatchewan to take on the Huskies in the conference playoffs on the weekend.
