ABBOTSFORD -- The nationally ranked UFV Cascades (4-0) completed a weekend sweep of the Manitoba Bisons (0-4) with a 69-58 win on Saturday night. Four players scored at laeast 14 points for the hosts, while the Bisons were led by forward
Autumn Agar's 18, the second best total of her career in the regular season.
The Bisons out-rebounded their opponent 41-36 and led 13-9 midway through the first, thanks in part to Agar and
Emerson Martin, who combined for nine of the team's first 13 points. The Cascades went on a 9-0 run to end the period however, and didn't trail the rest of the way.
Despite the result, Manitoba kept the game close for all four periods. They cut UFV's lead to three on multiple occasions, as they battled hard on the glass, putting back multiple shots off of rebounds on the offensive end. A jumper by
Emily Johnson cut the score to 45-42 for the Cascades at the beginning of the fourth, however a 12-2 run over the next five minutes put momentum firmly in the hands of the hosts the rest of the way.
Manitoba will have another tough test on the road next weekend as they take on the 4-0 Regina Cougars.
