Box Score SASKATOON – It was the annual Huskies Fight Cancer night at Merlis Belsher Place and the Dogs were hosting the Manitoba Bisons for the second night in a row. After an overtime loss to the Bisons last night, Saskatchewan was looking to put some points on the board and grab the win at home.
The Huskies were eager to put last night's loss out of their minds, and it showed with an explosive first period.
Jaxon Kaluski scored his eighth goal of the season just seven and a half minutes into the period, with Chantz Petruic grabbing his first goal of the season just five minutes later to stretch the lead to two. Jared Dmytriw scored his 10
thof the season just under a minute and a half later to extend the lead even further.
With the Huskies up 3-0, Manitoba's
Codey Behun found the net to put the Bisons on the board just 19 seconds after Dmytriw's goal. The period would end with a 3-1 lead over the Bisons.
Manitoba got the action started in the second period when
Brett Davis was hauled down on a breakaway. Davis was able to beat Jordan Kooy firing a shot low blocker side with 11:59 remaining in the period. With 11 seconds left in the second, Manitoba's
Devon Skoleski slipped one past Kooy to tie the game 3-3. It was the second night in a row where the Huskies got scored on with 11 seconds left remaining in a period.
Kaluski potted his second of the game eight minutes into the third after taking his own rebound and backhanding it home. Manitoba pulled their goalie but were unable to tie it up giving the Huskies the 4-3 victory and 3 out of 4 points available to them on the weekend.
In net for the Huskies was Jordan Kooy who stopped 25 of 28. Ross Hawryluk was back in net for the second night for the Bisons, stopping 33 of 37 shots on goal.
