WBB: Bisons give No.1 ranked Cougars everything they can handle in 91-82 loss

Brynn Endicott records career-high nine points, Keziah Brothers adds 19.

REGINA -- Trailing by double digits at halftime, the Manitoba Bisons battled back in the second half, keeping within two possessions of the No. 1 ranked Regina Cougars in the fourth quarter. Foul trouble and a shift to a 2-3 zone paid dividends in the end for the hosts, who topped Manitoba 91-82 in an exciting contest.

Fifth-year spark plug Keziah Brothers scored 19 points in the loss, the third best total of her career, on six-of-seven shooting from the field. First-year forward Brynn Endicott added a career-best nine.

The Herd chipped away throughout the game. They were down by 12 after one and 11 after two, but out-scored the Cougars in the third, as the two sides entered the final ten in an eight-point game.

Brothers had 11 after three, and her step-back jumper -- a move she was successful with all night -- made the score 70-67 just over two minutes into the final period. Lauren Bartlett added a few clutch shots from the beyond the arc and had multiple second half steals, as the visitors scored 17 points off of turnovers.

The hosts also went cold from beyond the arc. They had eight treys in the opening 20, which was a major reason for their lead, however the Bisons tightened up on D, keeping the game within two possessions for most of the fourth.

The Cougars were just as lethal on defence though, recording 24 points off of turnovers. They got another 20-plus point performance from leading scorer Jade Belmore, and Brothers and Emerson Martin, who had 12 points, both fouled out at key times in the fourth as Regina held on for the win to stay undefeated.

Manitoba is still looking for their first win of the season, however they've faced three nationally ranked teams to start the year, who have a combined record of 17-2. They'll return home this weekend to face the 4-2 Saskatchewan Huskies.
