BRANDON — It was good vibes all around for the Manitoba Bisons on Friday, as they got the victory, head into the Canada West playoffs with two straight wins, and accomplished some history for their fifth-year guard.
For a second straight Friday at the Healthy Living Centre in Brandon, Bisons women's basketball came in and put the clamps down in the second half — outscoring the Bobcats 19-10 in the fourth quarter on their way to a 74-61 victory.
Bisons fifth-year guard Taylor Randall led all players with 21 points and moved past 1,400 career points in her final regular season game. She is the only Bisons women's basketball player to accomplish this since the program joined Canada West in 2000.
The win moves the Bisons to 4-12 on the season while the Bobcats are 0-14 with two games to go.
Elsewhere for the Bisons, forward Lovisa Fjellner continued a strong second half of her season with 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals off the bench. Deidre Bartlett and Emily Johnson chipped in eight points each.
The game was a send-off for Bobcats graduating player Adrianna Proulx, who was one of her team's leading scorers. The veteran Proulx had 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Brandon was led by Reeta Tulkki, who scored 16 points in 33 minutes.
This season, every team has a shot in the Canada West playoffs, beginning with single elimination play in games on Friday, March 4.
