Bobcats pounce in regular season finale, beating Bisons 72-60

James Wagner and Keiran Zziwa combined for 41 points in their last games at Brandon.

WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Bisons couldn't get it going from distance on Sunday afternoon, as they shot 3-for-19 from three-point territory and lost to the Brandon Bobcats, 72-60.

The matinee matchup was the result of a postponement on Friday due to blizzard conditions in Manitoba. The win improves Brandon to 2-14 while the Bisons finish their regular season at 7-9.

Both teams await their playoff matchups, with the first round tournament taking place from March 3-5 in Alberta.

James Wagner led Manitoba's scoring on Sunday, following up a career-high tying 27 points with 17. The fifth-year big also had seven rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block while shooting 8-for-14. Keiran Zziwa added 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Herd.

The two fifth-years, though, were the only Bisons to score in double-digits, while four Bobcats starters scored at least 12. Leading the way was Anthony Tsegakele, who dropped 18 points, nine boards and six steals in just 25 minutes before picking up a second technical early in the fourth quarter, leading to his ejection.

His teammates were there to back him up, though. After Manitoba cut a double-digit deficit down to six points, key buckets from Eli Ampofo and Sultan Haider Bhatti helped Brandon get their lead right back. Those two combined for 30 on Sunday.

The Bobcats also had much better luck shooting the ball, as they went 11-for-28 (39.3%), winning that category by 24 points over Manitoba.
