BRANDON -- After going shot-for-shot with some of Canada's best in the first half of the season, the Manitoba Bisons earned their first win of the campaign on Friday night against Brandon. Veteran forward
Autumn Agar had her first career double-double in the win, with 15 points and ten rebounds as Manitoba improved to 1-10 with a 72-62 victory.
The Bisons had 31 points off turnovers in the win, while out-scoring Brandon 42-28 in the paint. Guards
Lauren Bartlett and
Mar Tomas Arbos were key on the defensive end, combining for ten steals.
Brandon led on two occasions early in the first quarter, and kept with the Herd entering halftime. The third quarter broke the game wide open, as the Bisons out-scored the Bobcats 20-6. Brandon closed the gap in the final ten, but it wasn't enough.
Agar scored eight of her 15 in the third, getting to the lane with ease. Fellow veteran
Emily Johnson also came up big in the third. She scored four in a row to increase Manitoba's lead to 11 at one point, and tied a career high with 14 points overall.
Both teams will play again tomorrow.
