Big starts to the year have earned
Kolby Thornton and
Angela Kroeker Boston Pizza Athlete of the Week honours.
In net, men's hockey goalie
Kolby Thornton made 39 saves in his first U SPORTS start and 58 overall during Manitoba's home and season opening series against Saskatchewan.
He replaced
Simon Harkness late in Thursday's opener, stopping all 19 shots he faced, and followed that up with a big game in his first full start.
Thornton had a big first period to give Manitoba an early lead in the Friday rematch, stopping all 15 shots he faced, and 24 more overall. He has only allowed goals in one of four total periods to start the season.
In Saskatchewan, Kroeker was the top Bison in the women's 6k cross country race, with a time of 33:24.4, good for 11th overall.
She has been the top female finisher in both of the Herd's races to start the 2023 season, after a 23:34.3 result in Minnesota, good for 36th in a field of 402.
