Kylie Lesuk's first career hat trick lifted the Manitoba Bisons to a 4-1 win and secured a weekend sweep of the Calgary Dinos on Saturday afternoon.
"It feels pretty nice, I have to give credit to both of my linemates and my whole team. We played really good today and connected as always," said Lesuk about her performance.
"We started off a bit slow but as the game went on we started making plays. We didn't take as many penalties as we normally do so the helped a lot too."
The Dinos and Bisons were goalless through first six minutes before Lesuk tipped in a puck blasted by leading scorer
Camille Enns from the blue line to break the deadlock.
Chances were few and far between after the opening goal and to the end of the second period. Midway through the second, Calgary slid a puck across the face of goal and fired point blank but Manitoba goalie
Emily Shippam shut the door.
After several strong attempts on goal, the Dinos found the equalizer five minutes into the third period. Emma Tait fired a shot that beat Shippam over the shoulder.
Before Calgary could finish enjoying the celebration, Lesuk bagged her second of the game less than a minute later to give the Herd the lead once again.
Lesuk wasn't finished just yet. With six minutes to go, she completed the hat trick to put the Bisons up 3-1. Linemate
Julia Bird got in on the fun a minute later when she scored her first of the campaign, putting the game on ice as the Herd now led 4-1.
Manitoba are now 4-2 through November after starting the season 2-6. They head to Edmonton next week to take on the Alberta Pandas for their last pair of games before 2024.
"Keep working hard and keep it going," said Lesuk about the message around the locker room to finish the year. "We have a little bit of a break after next week so we want to give it our all."
The Bisons and Pandas faceoff Friday, November 24th at 7pm at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.
