WINNIPEG – The Brandon Bobcats shot the lights out from distance, netting 17 triples on an efficiency of 47 percent, getting a weekend split with the Manitoba Bisons, 94-68 on Friday night at IGAC.
Â
Sultan Haider Bhatti and Travis Hamberger picked up where they left off yesterday, combining to shoot 50 percent from three, racking up 25 and 16 points, respectively. Khari Ojeda-Harvey added a double-double with 13 points and ten assists.Â
Â
The Bisons were unable to match BU from distance, shooting just 5-for-26.
Daren Watts led all Bisons with 14 points, while the Bobcats were able to hold top scorers
Simon Hildebrandt and
Mason Kraus to a combined 16 points.Â
Â
A seven-point game was broken wide open in the second quarter. Manitoba had kept pace in the first 12 minutes, with balanced scoring from Hildebrandt, Watts,
Wyatt Tait and Bolatito "Tito" Obasoto.Â
Â
Cue Haider Bhatti.Â
Â
With the score 25-17, he proceeded to score eight unanswered points, with Hamberger adding two triples and Jack McDonald also netting a three in a 16-2 run that made the score 41-19 Bobcats.Â
Â
The visitors didn't trail the rest of the way, continuing to make shots from mid to long distance in a 26-point win.Â
"The Bobcats are one of the best shooting teams in the country. The halftime three-point difference was 33-0. When they're making threes at a high rate and we're not hitting anything that's pretty hard to overcome," said Bisons head coach
Kirby Schepp.Â
"I'd like to see a renewed motivation [next week] in terms of our defensive intensity, off ball actions and the things we struggled with today. Getting humbled can help teams at times and let's hope it helps us going forward."
Â
Manitoba will travel to play Calgary next weekend while Brandon welcomes Thompson Rivers.
