REGINA -- The Manitoba Bisons scored early but were unable to keep the host Regina Cougars at bay, as they knocked off the Herd 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The win improves Regina's record to 1-1-2, while the Bisons fell to 1-5-0.
Rookie
Taryn Cabak, who's started every game this season for Manitoba as a true freshman, scored her first career U SPORTS goal just under seven minutes into the contest. It gave Manitoba a 1-0 lead that they held until just before halftime.
Winnipeg native Peyton Enns -- a consistent thorn in the Bisons' side during her U SPORTS career -- created the Cougars' first goal when she was taken down in the area for a penalty kick. Teammate Allyson Schneider blasted it home to tie the game 41 minutes in.
In the second half, Enns was at it again, scoring the game-winner in the 68th on a brilliant single-player effort where she used her speed to create space before firing home a right-footer from in close. It was the third goal of her U SPORTS career against Manitoba, and second in a row dating back to last year's playoff game.
Kirsten Koellmel added an insurance marker in the 77th to round out the scoring.
Cabak's tally early in the game was the result of brilliant passing and a stellar finish. Forward
Janelle Chomini created the chance when she raced past multiple Cougars down the right flank. Crossing in, she found teammate
Camila Goldsztein, who delivered an accurate left-footer to Cabak, and the rest was history as she blasted it to the right past the keeper.
Jessica Tsai led all Bisons with two shots on net, while
Karina Bagi made five saves to increase her career total to 173. Manitoba is back at home this weekend, taking on UNBC and UBC at 6 pm on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
