Dinos’ Dynamite Offence Comes Alive In 5-1 Win As Calgary Completes Weekend Sweep Of Manitoba Bisons In Men’s Hockey

Calgary proved too much for Manitoba’s defence as they controlled the game from start to finish.

Box Score The Calgary Dinos put on an offensive clinic with a 5-1 win over the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon at Wayne Fleming Arena.

"Tonight I thought we played an okay 30 minutes but it's just not enough against a really good hockey team. It's tough to be too upset at the result when you compare where the two teams are at," said Bisons Head Coach Gordon Burnett after the loss.

"We have to play our game for 60 minutes not 30. It's tough to have a chance when you don't," Burnett added.

Calgary jumped out to an early lead after a barrage of shots while the Bisons were on their heels.

The Dinos doubled their lead when Adam Kydd setup Jake Poole for an easy tap in.

But the visitors weren't finished yet. Max Patterson found himself open in front of goal and guided in a Jake Gricius pass on the power play to put their team up 3-0 in the opening 15 minutes.

The offence continued to surge early in the second period for Calgary. Connor Gutenberg potted his fourth goal of the season and the Dinos' fourth goal of the game.

However Manitoba wasn't down and out. Dylan Thiessen set up Parker Malchuk who threaded a shot through the defence to put the Bisons on the board for the first time of the game.

Kolby Thorton was forced into action many times during the third period, facing nearly 40 shots halfway through.

Another goal came Calgary's way just shy of their 40th shot to make the score 5-1 in their favour. Colson Gengenbach finessed his way around Thorton for his third goal of the weekend.

Manitoba travel to Langley next week to take on the Trinity Western Spartans January 26th at 7pm CT.
