The University of Manitoba Bisons faced off against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a rematch of last night's thriller which saw the Huskies prevail in the shootout after the Bisons tied the game with two seconds left in regulation.
Eager to build on last night's nearly completed comeback, the Bisons nearly opened the scoring when a high wrist shot from Kian Calder was barely turned away by Huskies goalie Jordan Kooy.
 
After an action packed first five minutes, the Huskies settled into and began to control the flow of the game, outshooting Manitoba 16-3 in the first period and finally going up 1-0 through a goal from Huskies forward Josh Pillar.
 
Two Bisons powerplays to end the period were unsuccessful and the Huskies carried the lead into the second frame.
 
The second period started much better for Manitoba. The Bisons doubled their first period shot total within five minutes and looked close to an equalizer. Riley Zimmerman nearly found the back of the net, using his speed to beat two defenders to the puck and nearly beating Kooy short-side.
 
Saskatchewan made it 2-0 a few minutes later when Chantz Petruic scored on the counter attack. They nearly followed it up with a third just moments later off a scrum in front that was corralled by Kolby Thornton, who had 30 saves on the day.
 
The third period started much like the second, despite some great chances from Manitoba, including a slapshot by Caden Zaplitny that just barely whistled over the net, it was the Huskies who scored first through a one-timer on the powerplay from Vince Loschiavo.
 
One minute later the Bisons had their best chance of the game when Riley Stotts chipped the puck ahead to Skylar Bruce to create a 2-on-1 for Manitoba. Bruce outwaited the defender and slid the puck across the crease to Stotts who was robbed by Kooy.
 
Saskatchewan made it four when the puck squeaked out of a net-front jam right to a wide-open Cole Jordan.
 
Dawson Holt added a fifth to make it 5-0 Saskatchewan, sealing the win.
 
The Bisons are on a bye this weekend, and are back in action November 15 as they take on the visiting Mount Royal Cougars.
