WINNIPEG – Jaeli Ibbetson recorded the 11th triple-double in Canada West history (dating back to 2000) and Lauren Foullong hit six triples (after nine the night before) as the UBCO Heat beat Manitoba 85-64 on seniors night at IGAC.
The win gives the Heat 11 on the year, a new regular season program record, and they enter the Canada West playoff tournament as the No. 9 seed overall.
Manitoba fell to 6-14 but will also be at the tournament, hosted by Fraser Valley February 21-25 as the 12 seed. They will face No. 5 Regina (15-5), who they split against at home earlier this year.
Foullong scored 15 of her 18 points in the first half, all from three, while Ibbetson reached a triple double in the second half, recording 23 points, 13 rebounds and ten assists.
The UBCO duo powered their side to a ten-point halftime lead, and continued to apply pressure in the second half. The Herd did a great job on the glass, collecting 36 rebounds, just nine shy of UBCO's 45 (led by Mar Tomas Arbos' eight), but the visitors shot 54 percent overall, with 50 of their 85 points coming in the paint as they used their overall size (no player smaller than 5'7") to make a difference.
Manitoba led 12-6 early, and they kept pace with the Heat from distance, getting six makes from the perimeter compared to seven for UBCO, but they struggled to find an answer for Ibbetson in the second half.
Bisons point guard Lauren Bartlett (playing in her final regular season home game along with Emily Johnson and Talia Peters) kept Foullong at bay in the second half, finishing with five steals, along with a team-leading 17 points and four rebounds, but Ibbetson picked up the slack.
The Heat senior finished with 15 points in the second half, kept possessions alive for her side and only missed one shot from the field.
