The 6'7", 190 pound outside hitter out of Vincent Massey is the number one-ranked player in the province, a provincial champ, High School Player of the Year, and national 17U all-star.

The Bison men's volleyball program made a game-changing announcement this week, securing the commitment of the No. 1 ranked volleyball player in the province, in 6'7" outside hitter Owen Weekes.

Weekes was the tournament MVP during MSHAA 4A provincials, helping the Vincent Massey Trojans cap off a 49-0 season, and their first provincial 4A championship. He averaged 15 kills pet five-set match during the season, earning MHSAA Player of the Year honours along the way.

A multi-sport standout, Weekes is also a high-level basketball and baseball player. His dad Mike is a Bisons basketball alum, while his sister Olivia is in her third season playing basketball for UBC.

Weekes has a spike touch of 11'9 and was also the 17U Male Player of the Year, Grade 11 Athlete of the Year, was on the High School All-Manitoba Team and won the Fan's Choice Graduating All-Star Award.

Weekes joins top-ten ranked teammate Mitchell Strilchuk on the Bisons, with the libero announcing his commitment earlier last year.

"I chose the U of M due to a great combination of coaching, player development and competitiveness," said Weekes, who currently plays of the Junior Bisons' 18U team.

"I trust that the Bisons program can help me excel as a student and athlete. I can't wait to join the Herd."
