Bisons swimming legend Kelsey Wog qualifies for second straight summer Olympics

Wog dominated the 200m breaststroke prelims, qualifying with an Olympic 'A' cut time of 2:23.71.

It's been a memorable year for Bisons swimming legend Kelsey Wog, the only three-time Female Athlete of the Year in school history.

This past December, the program alum shattered a 15-year Canadian record in the 100m breaststroke, setting the new national standard with a time of 1:04.22. Wog's time bested UBC's Annamay Pierse, who held the prior record of 1:04.28. Now, she's off to her second straight summer Olympics. Wog dominated the 200m breaststroke prelims at Canadian Olympic Trials in Toronto, qualifying with an Olympic 'A' cut time of 2:23.71.

Wog remained consistent in the final, finishing second with another time that hit Olympic standard, at 2:23.80.

A few days earlier, Wog reached Olympic consideration time in the 100m breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:07.00 to finish second in the event. She represented her country in both events during the Tokyo Olympics. The Paris Olympics run from July 26 to August 11.

"I am super proud of Kelsey's accomplishment. The pressure was on for her last race and she responded with a great race in the morning and finished with earning her spot on the team in the finals," said head coach Vlastik Cerny.

"We are two months away from Paris and will use that time to get her ready to be at her best. The result is thanks to great team work and effort. From Bison Sports to the support team of coaches, sports science personnel and family and friends, thank you to all."
