Another Junior Bisons standout is staying home, as the Bisons women's volleyball program announced today the commitment of 5'11" outside hitter Makayla Miller. A club provincial champion at the 13U and 16U levels, Miller was also a 15U and 16U provincial all-star, as well as a national silver medalist (out of 88 competing teams) at the 14U level and national bronze medalist (out of 268 competing teams) at the 15U level.Â
"We are thrilled to have Makayla join the Herd in 2027. She is a great athlete with the work ethic and determination to play at the top level in U SPORTS," said Bisons head coach
Ken Bentley. "She is a tremendous six rotation player that can always be counted on to better the ball. Makayla makes everyone around her better. Her character makes her a perfect fit for Bison Volleyball and we are excited to have her join our squad in 2027."
A multi-sport standout, Miller was also Shaftesbury's Team MVP in soccer in 2024, and was also part of the 2025 Best Eleven. She comes from an athletic family, as both parents played sports at the national level -- water polo and judo. In the classroom, Miller is an honour roll student.Â
"It's an incredible honour to wear a Bisons jersey and represent my home province. Growing up in Manitoba, I've always looked up to this program and the athletes who are a part of it. The culture within this team is something truly special, everyone is so welcoming, supportive, and committed to helping each other grow," she said.
"That environment made my decision feel right from the start. I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to continue my academic and athletic journey here, and I can't wait to keep developing my skills with this team."
