A pair of 0-1 teams will seek their first victory of the 2025 campaign when Manitoba visits Calgary in week two of the 2025 Canada West season. The Bisons won the only game between the two sides in 2024, 22-17, and are looking to win two straight road games against the Dinos for the first time in 23 years. The last time the Herd accomplished the feat was between the 2001 and 2002 seasons, with victories of 34-0 in 2001 and 37-34 in 2002.
Overall, Calgary has commanded the season series between the two sides. They are 28-16 against Manitoba in the last 29 years, including an 18-5 record at home.
Manitoba had plenty of opportunities in their week one, 21-9 loss to UBC on the road. They entered the red zone on six different occasions, including on five of six trips in the second half, but came away with two turnovers, and two missed field goals overall. Despite the result, the Herd's ground game continues to be a strength. Manitoba rushed for a school record 2,016 yards on the ground a season ago, and started off strong in 2025 with a combined 207 against the T-Birds, which leads Canada West.
Individually, All-Canadian running back
Breydon Stubbs and Canada West Player of the Year
Jackson Tachinski did significant damage, adding to their notable career totals. Stubbs rushed for 92 yards on 15 carries, and is just 45 career rushing yards shy of passing Grey Cup champion Anthony Coombs for fifth in school history. He currently has 2,188, and is one of just seven players in program history to rush for more than 2,000 career yards. Stubbs' 22 career regular season rushing touchdowns also ranks third all-time, just one shy of tying Vanier Cup champion Matt Henry for second.
Meanwhile, Tachinski's one-yard rushing major last week increased his regular season rushing touchdown total to 18 as a Bison. He needs just one more to tie fellow quarterback Brett Watt for fourth all-time. With two rushing scores, Tachinski would set a school record for the most by a pivot in school history.
Defensively, the Bisons started four new players in the secondary in week one, including NCAA Division 1 transfer
Marcus Wahl at corner. Weak side linebacker
Nic Pereira, a captain this season, led the Bisons last week with eight total tackles, including a career-high seven solo.
