A multi-goal night for Skylar Bruce ended in heartbreak for Manitoba as the Huskies scored three unanswered to win the game 5-4 in regulation. Bruce found the back of the net twice and assisted twice in the affair, which brought him to a team-leading total of 17 points in the season.
Four different goal scorers found the back of the net in the opening period.
The Huskies fired shot after shot to open the first, and their efforts were rewarded when Forward Liam Keeler picked up the deflected puck and forced it over the line to open the scoring.
The goals didn't stop coming after that. Manitoba got themselves on the board just two minutes later when Forward Skyler Bruce picked off a pass from the Saskatchewan defenceman and laid the puck on the platter for Blake Swetlikoff to fire it home.
Bruce then scored his first of the night as the Bisons went on the power play. Captain Jonny Hooker squared the puck across ice to his teammate, leaving Bruce with a wide open net to give Manitoba the lead.
Saskatchewan closed out the scoring with just under a minute left in the first. After a slapshot from Defenceman Landon Kosior made Bisons Brayden Holt give up the rebound, Huskies Dawson Holt tapped the puck home to make the game level going into the second.
Saskatchewan generated the bulk of the chances to begin the period, but the Bisons were the ones who found the back of the net in the dying minutes.
After a quick breakout play from the Manitoba defence, Bruce and Rookie Lucas Brennan were in on net in a two-versus-one. After the shot from Bruce left the puck on the line, it was Brennan who forced the puck over that gave the Bisons the lead entering the final period.
This was Brennan's sixth goal on the season, an impressive tally for the rookie forward.
Holt also played his part to keep the Bisons lead, who made 15 saves within the period.
The third period started off strong for Manitoba, as Bruce found the back of the net for the second time on the night.
A slick move from the forward created space for him from the Saskatchewan Defenceman, which allowed him to slot it top-shelf for his sixth goal and 17th point in the season.
However, the final five minutes of the period saw Saskatchewan score three to win the game in regulation.
An up-ice pass allowed Huskies Dawson Holt to go in alone on net who fired it top-left for his second of the night.
Saskatchewan tied the game under two minutes later, after a drop-pass in front of the net gave Logan Bairos time and space to score his first of the season.
In heartbreaking fashion for Manitoba, Saskatchewan Forward Conner Roulette poke-checked the puck of the Bisons defenceman and fired the puck home himself to win the game for the Huskies with just 45 seconds on the clock.
The Bisons hit the road next week to take on the Trinity Western Spartans at 9 p.m. CT
