LANGLEY, B.C. —
Norah Collins scored twice, including the game-tying goal in the final two minutes of regulation, and
Sara Harbus netted the overtime winner as the University of Manitoba Bisons defeated Trinity Western 3-2 on Friday night to extend their winning streak to four games.
The victory improved Manitoba's record to 4-3 on the season and continued the momentum built over the past two weekends after the Bisons opened the year with back-to-back losses.
Trinity Western opened the scoring at 3:37 of the first period when Kyra Anderson converted a setup from Ella Boon and Kara Yackel.
The Bisons responded just over five minutes later.
Glory Plett found
Norah Collins, who buried the equalizer at 9:04 for her fourth goal of the season.
The Spartans regained the lead early in the second period when Kara Yackel scored at the 54-second mark, with assists from Ella Boon and Shae LaPrade.
The one-goal advantage held deep into the third period despite Manitoba controlling much of the play and the hosts holding a 25-22 edge in shots overall. The Bisons finally broke through with just 1:02 remaining in regulation when Collins struck again, pouncing on a rebound with a perfectly placed missile over the Spartans' netminder.
Sadie Keller and
Glory Plett earned the assists on the play, which sent the game to overtime.
Manitoba completed the comeback at 3:34 of the extra frame.
Addilyn Nohlgren reached around a defender to put a shot on net, setting
Sara Harbus for the rebound and game winner.
In goal,
Jenna Goertzen made 24 saves on 26 shots to earn the win. The Bisons killed off all three Trinity Western power plays, while the Spartans successfully denied both Manitoba power-play opportunities.
Collins continued her strong offensive stretch with two goals and now has five on the season. Plett contributed two assists, while Harbus and Nohlgren each recorded key points in overtime.
The victory marked Manitoba's fourth consecutive win and another example of the resilience the Bisons have shown during their recent turnaround, rallying from a third-period deficit before securing the extra point on the road.
