Six different Bisons found the back of the net Friday night against the Regina Cougars, and
Eric Alarie,
Andrew Boucher,
Michael King and
Caden Zaplitny all had multiple points in a 6-1 Manitolba win.
Â
Head Coach Gordon Burnett put it simply when asked about the game. "I just think that we were focused on ourselves and what we're supposed to do and be doing."
Â
A relatively slow start to the first picked up in intensity as three goals were scored in the latter half of the period.
Â
Regina were first to put themselves on the board off the power play. A slick pass down the ice to Eric Houk gave the Cougars Forward time and space to fire the puck into the top right corner of the net.
Â
But the Bisons were quick to respond, leveling the game just two minutes later. After the Regina netminder Damon Cunningham made an initial block off Bisons
Michael King's shot, forward
Andrew Boucher picked up the rebound and emphatically back-handed the puck home.
Â
Filled with energy after leveling the game, Manitoba found the back of the net again just minutes later. After a good defensive play put Bisons
Luke Brenton and
Eric Alarie on the counter, Brennan squared the puck to Alarie, who gave the Bisons the lead with ease.
Â
After making some strong defensive plays to open the second, the Bisons capitalized on their first chance in the period.
Â
A quick shot from defenceman
Kaycee Coyle from the right side of the ice forced the Regina Goaltender to give up the rebound, which allowed Forward Skylar Bruce to tap the puck over the line for his impressive ninth goal of the season.
Â
Manitoba's fourth goal of the night came with just 46 seconds left in the second.
Â
A quick string of passes around the Cougars gave Bisons'
Caden Zaplitny time to flick the puck to Forward
Grady Lane who tipped the puck past the outstretched Regina netminder.
Â
The Bisons defence was also on full display, allowing just six shots on net for the duration of the period.
Â
Manitoba continued their goal scoring spree in the final period, scoring two goals within a minute.
Â
Their first of the period came after some great work from Boucher along the boards secured the puck behind the Cougars' net. Boucher then made a tape-to-tape pass in front of the crease to teammate
Michael King, easily slotting it home to make it 5-1.
Â
The Bisons saved their best team goal for last. An easy entry and three cross-ice passes were all that was needed for Zaplitny to bank the puck off the post into the net.
Â
Eric Alarie got his third point of the night off of Zaplitny's goal, tying his personal best for points scored within a single game.
Â
Regina attempted to bring life back into the game, but the Bisons defence along with goaltender
Braden Holt shut their efforts down to close the night out 6-1.
Â
"Playing back-to-back games is always tough, it's tough to sweep any weekend," said Burnett when asked to look ahead to tomorrow's game. "We had a lot of self-induced chances that we gave them, I think if we clean those up it should be a good thing for us tomorrow."
Â
You can catch the Bisons again tomorrow for their Senior night, as they take on the Cougars again at 5 p.m. CT.
