'We were blown away by his athleticism': Versatile outside hitter Jamin Ekhaguere commits to Bisons men's volleyball

Ekhaguere, an Ontario native, is a three-time Senior Boys MVP and two-time provincial champion, among many other accolades.

One of the top talents coming out of Ontario, outside hitter Jamin Ekhaguere has announced his commitment to the Bisons men's volleyball team. The 6'3", 190-pound standout brings a wealth of experience to the Herd, including a six-month stint internationally in 2025 with JSW Academy, where he trained and lived in Poland. A three-year member of Team Ontario, Ekhaguere has also travelled to Slovenia with the provincial program for international competition.

Ekhaguere is a three-time Senior Boys MVP and two-time provincial champion (2023 and 2024). He was also a U16 OVA Grand Prix All-Star in 2024, and U18 OVA Grand Prix All-Star in 2025.

"We were blown away by his athleticism. He has the ability to move so fluidly, but has a ton of power that balances him out as a great athlete and someone we see thriving in a competitive Canada West conference," raved Bisons head coach Lupo Ludwig.

His ball control is on another level, which is really important given the high power serving we see week in and week out, and his mentality was great. He's a competitor in every sense of the word, and you can just tell how important pushing himself to be the best version of himself is. He spent some time over in Europe earlier this season, and you can tell that just helped him have a strong professional mindset. We're so excited to have him join our program, and he'll have an immediate impact in his first year.

Ekhaguere's previous teams include Unity Volleyball Club, Thunder Cats Volleyball Club and Leaside Volleyball Club. In the classroom he's an honour roll student.

"I chose Manitoba's men's volleyball program because it offers the high level competition I'm looking for as well as strong coaching, and long-term athlete development," Ekhaguere said.

The program has a reputation for developing disciplined, resilient players who understand the game at a high level, not just physically but tactically and mentally. I'm drawn to the culture of accountability and work ethic within the team, and I believe that there unity and accountability will push me to improve every day. Manitoba's emphasis on team identity, consistency, and competing aligns with my goals as both a player and a person, making it the best place for me to grow and contribute.
