Men's Hockey Press Release

Manitoba Junior Hockey League veteran Brandon Funk commits to Bisons

Funk played 159 games in the MJHL, recording 109 points.

Another of Manitoba's top junior hockey talents is coming home. Winnipeg native Brandon Funk announced his commitment to the Bisons men's hockey team today, adding key depth at the forward position.

Capable of playing on the wing or at center, Funk brings an array of experience to Manitoba. The 5'10", 181-pounder played 159 games in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) between Steinbach and Portage from 2021-24, recording a combined 109 points. He was on the Pistons roster in 2023-24 when they marched to a 47-win regular season and trip to the Turnbull Cup finals. During that campaign, Funk tallied 46 points in 58 regular season games, including a career-high 21 goals.

"Brandon brings the kind of energy, compete level and work ethic that we are looking to add to our lineup," said Bisons head coach Gordon Burnett. "He plays with intensity every shift and will be a great fit for our group."

Over the last two seasons, Funk has played in the NAHL and BCHL. He was an alternate captain in the BCHL for the Spruce Grove Saints this past season, recording 36 points in 54 games. He also took part in the 2023-24 MJHL All-Star Game and the 2025-26 BCHL All-Star Game.

"I am stoked to join the Bisons this season," Funk said. "I've heard nothing but great things about the organization and I'm ready to get to work."
