Another veteran CJHL defenceman with championship experience committed to the Herd today, as the men's hockey program announced the addition of Cole Unger. The Medicine Hat, AB native is a two-time SJHL Champion with the Melfort Mustangs.
 
Over three seasons with Melfort, Unger advanced to the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) national championship twice, competing for the Centennial Cup in both 2024 and 2025 following league titles in the SJHL. During two runs to the final of the CJHL's most prestigious tournament, Unger recorded three points over ten total games.  
 
A veteran of 155 total games in the SJHL, Unger recorded 55 points overall, and was dynamic in the playoffs, tallying 16 points over three seasons.
 
"Cole was a big part of Melfort's championship teams that advanced to the Centennial Cup," said Bisons head coach Gordon Burnett.
 
"He has tremendous mobility and can jump into the play offensively with ease. We are excited to have him join our D core."
