When Camille Forbes joined the University of Manitoba in 2016, she was a recruit that would take play part in the future of the Bison’s women’s soccer team. This season (after recovering from a season-ending injury last year), she heads into the season looking to compete for more playing time and discover what U SPORTS has to offer. 

“Hopefully this year I will be able to gain experience and develop my skills, “ she said. “I also plan on being in close competition with our other goalkeepers, so that we all can push each other to be better players.”

An invitee to the Bison’s soccer camp for 2015, Forbes took the words of head coach Martinez Lagunas to heart and joined the Bisons Athletic Development program. It was there that her fitness level improved with a three-time-per-week strength and condition program. 

Simultaneously, Forbes also impressed at the open tryouts during the season. By February, her hard work had paid off when Martinez Lagunas presented her with a letter of intent.

Fittingly, her journey to the Bisons can be summed up in a motto which she lives by: “hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard.”

And hard work is what is needed for Forbes as she enters her second year with the Bisons, coming off a season-ending injury. 

Her only in-game experience with the Bisons came in the 2016 preseason, as she made appearances against North Dakota State (a 1-1 tie) and Mount Royal University (a 2-1 defeat)

“I thought I did pretty well in our pre season matches last year.” she said.

2016: Forbes played her club soccer with Bonivital. She was an invitee to the Bison’s soccer camp for 2015, and earned a spot on the roster the following year, where she would redshirt. 

2017: Continued her development under veterans Justina Jarmoszko and Maddie Wilford.

Personal: Enrolled in the Faculty of Science. Was an assistant coach for the MHSAA-winning Glenlawn Lions girl's soccer team in June of 2018.
