Biography

Despite her previous commitments with the University of Winnipeg Wesman, Justina Jarmoszko switched her outfit for Manitoba Bison colors for the 2017-18 campaign and is thankful for the opportunity she has been given for the foreseeable future.

“I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and although my university career may not have started with the Bisons, I can confidently say that having made the decision to make the Manitoba Bisons my home has been great. I am blessed to be a part of such high caliber of talented players,” said the goalkeeper.

However, her journey to becoming a member of the Bison women’s soccer team did not materialize without obstacles in the road. She had to forgo one year of participation in U SPORTS before she could link up with the Bisons. Jarmoszko took this disadvantage and turned it into an opportunity to study and train.

“Fate compelled me to face my unfortunate situation at that time, and in turn made me even stronger mentally and physically, resilient in the face of adversity. I definitely know now I’m on the right path to where I want to be going.”

The former member of the Manitoba Blizzard was monitored by head coach Vanessa Martinez Lagunas since her high school years. Bison’s bench boss left a lasting impression on the goalkeeper, who was expected to assume a number-one role for 2017. She had also been in contact with former Bison goalkeeper and assistant strength and conditioning coach Chloe Werle, who has also had a positive influence on Jarmoszko.

“One of my most memorable days was playing a friendly game against the Bisons in the summer of 2016 when Vanessa approached me with the opportunity to join their program. What I admired and respected most about Vanessa and her offer was that she told me not to rush and take time to reflect before I made any firm commitment to the team,” she said.

“For this upcoming season, I am excited to play with many familiar faces and new faces alike and to experience unparalleled success with Manitoba especially after having the amazing experience of hosting and playing at the 2017 U SPORTS National Championship with the Bison squad!”

Heading into the 2018 season, Jarmoszko hopes to build on a strong first season with the Bisons. She was awarded a Canada West second star of the week in October 2017 for earning two consecutive clean sheets and recording 16 saves during the weekend helping the Herd earn valuable 0-0 tie vs the Calgary Dinos and a 3-0 win vs the Lethbridge Pronghorns, an individual accomplishment she is very proud of.

Jarmozsko also plans to backstop the Bisons to another appearance in the National Championship. Having a received a taste of the tournament, the Bisons number-one wants nothing more than to experience the prestige of being part of U SPORTS finest competition once again.

“As a team our goal is to return soon to the National championship for another shot!”

“It was a huge honour and amazing experience to be a part of such a high level competition and so proud to have been a part of the Bisons!”
