2018 Women's Soccer Roster
Biography
Familiarity with the University of Manitoba is ultimately what led to Stephanie Friesen’s arrival to the Bisons. It was in late March 2017 that the forward committed to the Bison Women’s Soccer Team after accepting the invitation to attend Bison ID camps.Â
“I never thought of any other university to go to because I constantly had soccer and track and field events at the University of Manitoba, so I was already familiar with the campus and was comfortable here,” Friesen said.Â
In six years at Winnipeg Phoenix FC, Friesen honed her skill as a soccer player and experienced playing in Europe with the club. It is a memory that she recalls to this day.
“My favourite memory in my junior years was travelling to Scotland to play with my club team Winnipeg Phoenix FC.“
She also loved being part of the squad that hosted the 2017 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer National Championship.
“I'm looking forward to keep improving my game and learning from my teammates and coaches.”Â
The 2018-19 season is sure to bring new changes and challenge. For Friesen, the challenge for the Bison’s team is to maintain consistency.
“Our main goal as a team this season is to be more consistent when we play,” she said. “We want to consistently be playing at our highest level throughout the entire season.”
On a more personal note, the young forward’s ambition is to earn more minutes on the pitch.
“Personally my goal for this season is to earn more playing time now that I am in my second year.”
2017: Recruited out of Winnipeg Phoenix FC. Played in one game as a freshman.Â
Personal: During her time as a member of the Winnipeg Phoenix FC, Friesen was able to gain some international experience, playing in Europe with the club.
