Biography
Through her experience with Manitoba Blizzard, 2017 recruit Holly Angus has built a level of confidence suited for play in U SPORTS. The defender has worn the colors of some of the top clubs in Manitoba and competed in tournaments in the United States. She even captured silverware in 2015 with Team Manitoba at the Western Canada Games.
"Through my experiences with the Manitoba Blizzard program and playing against top level athletes in the US, as well as my experience in the Women’s League I now know that I can be a strong competitor at the university level," she said.
Despite her introduction into many programs outside of Manitoba, Angus opted to remain home for university. It was a decision influenced by coach Vanessa Martinez Lagunas.
"As a part of the Manitoba Blizzard program, I had exposure to many different coaches and programs in the US, and participated in a number camps at various NCAA colleges. I always had the feeling I wanted to stay home and my meetings with coach Vanessa made my decision quite easy."
In her first season as a Bison, Angus was handed her competitive debut for the Bisons in the home opening match, a 0-0 draw against the Regina Cougars. She then played a season-high 21 minutes at UBC the following week and played a further nine minutes against the University of Winnipeg in October, a 4-0 win. She has made great improvements in her game after a full year of training with the Bisons and will compete for more playing time in her second year with the program.
2017: Played in three games as a freshman, after being recruited from the Manitoba Blizzard.
Personal: The defender has worn the colors of some of the top clubs in Manitoba and has also competed in tournaments in the United States. She even captured a medal in 2015 with Team Manitoba at the Western Canada Games.
