Bisons strength and conditioning
The Bisons strength and conditioning team at UM provide a systematic approach to training designed to maximize the physical talent of all Bisons. The strength and conditioning team oversees all facets of physical preparation including warm-up, cool-down, mobility, strength and power training, conditioning workouts, and speed development.
The Bisons strength and conditioning team is committed to helping the Bisons improve upon both the physical and mental aspects of sport performance.

Cole Scheller, B.Kin., CSCS – Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach
Cole Scheller [B.Kin./’15] is the Lead Bison Strength and Conditioning Coach. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Cole is currently completing his research looking at different methods of strength assessment for his Masters in Kinesiology through the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the University of Manitoba.
Since January 2015 Cole has been an integral part of the Bison strength and conditioning team with a primary focus on the Bison Football and Soccer teams. Additionally, Cole has been involved with the Junior Bison strength and conditioning programs since its inception in 2015.
Cole is currently working to complete his National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 1 Weightlifting certification.

Adam Stevenson, B.Kin., CSCS, Pn1 – Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach (Interim)
Adam Stevenson is an NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist and has also completed the Precision Nutrition Level 1 coaching certification. He graduated from the University of Regina in 2016 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics. Adam is currently working on his Masters of Science in Strength and Conditioning offered by St. Mary’s University, Twickenham.
As the Assistant Bison Strength and Conditioning Coach, Adam works primarily with the Bison basketball, swim, track & field, and men’s volleyball teams. Since January 2016 her as also brought his expertise to the Junior Bison Strength & Conditioning programs.
Adam is working to complete the NCCP Weightlifting Introduction certification. |
Bisons High Performance Training Centres
The High Performance Training Centre, located on the main floor of the Active Living Centre at the Fort Garry campus, is a dedicated strength and conditioning training space for the Bisons basketball, volleyball, hockey, soccer, swimming and track teams.
This world-class training centre contains:
- 12 Olympic platforms
- DHS Olympic bars and bumper plates
- 6 power racks
- 4 sets of dumbbells ranging from 2-54 kg
- Plyoboxes
- Keiser Performance Trainers
- Seated row, lat pull down, glute ham raise, leg press, nordic lower, power runner, leg extension and leg curl machines.
- Three lane 30-metre sprint track.
- Rowing ergometers, elliptical machines, Woodway Curve treadmills, Keiser spin bikes and Wattbikes
David Asper University of Manitoba Bisons Football Centre
The Bisons Football weightroom is found within the David Asper University of Manitoba Bisons Football Centre in the belly of IG Field, the home to the Bisons and Winnipeg Blue Bombers football teams. The Centre provides Bisons Football with a full service athletic therapy clinic and training centre.
- The raining facility contains:
- 8 Olympic weightlifting platform
- DHS Olympic bars and bumper plates
- 5 Power racks
- 2 Jammers
- 1 Tredsled
- 2 Smith machines
- 2 sets of dumbbells ranging from 5lb to 200lbs
- Plyoboxes-Keiser functional trainers
- Lat pulldown, seated row and glute ham raise machines

The strength and conditioning staff apply cutting-edge technology to training programs which includes:
- Kistler force plate with isometric mid-thigh pull rig
- Fusion sport timing systems
- Tendo Speed and Power Analyzers
- GPSport GPS
- Polar Team 2 system
- Cloud based athlete data tracking system
