Please note, in January 2002, students in a referendum overwhelmingly voted in favour of an extended health and dental care plan. At the request of students via a referendum, UMSU implemented a health and dental plan designed by students to provide many important services and cover expenses that are excluded from basic public health care.

Services include additional prescription drug, ambulance, and vision coverage; paramedical treatment; dental care; and more. Although UMSU advocates for better public health care, it is important that students also have coverage now. Please visit the StudentCare website for complete information about your student plan. Click here to visit their website.

Weekend injuries: Please email atc@umanitoba.ca the day that the injury occurs explaining who you need to follow up with. The email will be read when the clinic opens the next business day or after hours. The athlete will follow up by calling at 8 a.m. Monday morning to ensure the injury is evaluated that day with a modified plan outlined for the week and any further follow up appointments are organized.

Timely reporting of injuries: All injuries must be looked at in a timely manner in the Bisons Athletic Therapy Clinic. Coaches will need to be advised if a modification to the athlete’s playing status is to be made for practices, games, and travel rosters. All injuries are cleared by UM Bisons athletic therapy staff regardless of who athletes are using for care.

Concussion testing: All student-athletes in high-risk sports or who have a history of concussion must undergo annual baseline concussion testing with the Bisons Athletic Therapy Clinic. Athletes with a concussion can contact atc@umanitoba.ca to arrange a follow up assessment and to determine next steps to return to academics and physical activity.
