Cole Scheller

Cole Scheller

Cole Scheller [B.Kin./’15, M.Sc./19’] is the Lead Bison Strength and Conditioning Coach, working to coordinate design and delivery of high-performance training programs to many of the varsity programs on campus.  He also oversees the strength and conditioning component of the Junior Bisons basketball and volleyball programs. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Cole splits his time between the High Performance Training Centre and the Bison Football Weight Room in Princess Auto Stadium, and had a depth of knowledge and breadth of experience that comes from working in a high-performance multi-sport environment.

A former Bison football athlete, Cole understands the importance of a quality training environment for student-athletes and is driven to provide that experience for all current Bisons.

A former football player, Scheller’s passion for sport has transitioned his focus from player to coach and he credits athletics for that shift.

“When my playing career ended, I got into coaching in order to continue to be involved with athletics,” said Scheller. “The experiences that I had as an athlete helped shape the person I am today."

Strength and conditioning wasn't a focus for much of his time as a Bison athlete. Now, with his athletic days behind him, Scheller is looking to continue his time as a Bison to improve the experience of all student-athletes.

“I have identified as a Bison for the better part of a decade and I have a vested interest in the health, performance and success of all Bison athletes.”

“I believe it is important to give back to the community and provide quality sport experiences to athletes, and coaching is an excellent way to do that.”

Scheller began his Bison journey as an undergraduate student and athlete, selecting the University of Manitoba to remain close to home for school.  Today, he is responsible for designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs on a year-round basis for the new generation of Bison athletes.

Cole is a shining example of how ongoing commitment to the University of Manitoba pays dividends in personal growth and development.
